Do black neon tetras school?

I would like to make these beautiful fish the centerpiece of my 55G and add about 15-18 of them. Will they school and be active or are they boring? Is 15-18 too many? Thanks.

Black neons are schooling fish. I don't think they'll school with other types of tetras, but they will school together. 15-18 would make for a great looking group in your aquarium.

Tetras normally will not group together unless they feel threatened or insecured. A few exceptions would be rummy-nose tetras that school around tightly no matter the circumstances.

Black neons are the least active tetras I've kept. Sure, they school - they all hide in the same clump of plants.
