Yes, she's pretty close. Any time now.

How do I make her more comfortable? I have another in the tank with her that is starting to look the same way.

I would keep things as normal as possible. Changes aren't good in the late stages. Just let nature take its course. She'll be fine.

Fishmonger...... she still hasn't had them. She keeps hiding under the filter, breathing rapidly, she is still eating, but I am starting to get worried that something is wrong . She is the only one in the tank

She's getting very close to having her babies, Hallie. Do you have plenty of floating plants for the babies' cover and for her to feel secure. The mothers hide before giving birth purposely. They do this to protect themselves and the babies...even though she may eat some. It's instinct, even when there are no other fish in the tank. What type of filter do you have in the tank ?

I have an aqua clear, from wally world... but I have it coverd with the end of some panty hose to keep it from sucking up the babies. do I need to keep the tank dark? that seems to be the only time she feels good enough to come out of hiding.... She is the only one that I have had to do this is why so many questions......

I have some plastic plants in the tank, my LFS didn't have any floating plants so I have ordered them, they just have not arrived as of yet....

I have thought that this may be her first batch of fry, I got her from the pet store about 6 weeks ago and this is the first batch she has had for me.
Just thinking is all!

I've heard other people say that keeping the tank dark is a good idea. Since you don't have live plants, it shouldn't hurt anything. When you get the floating plants, they'll provide shade and cover for her.
