My favorite guppy just spawned 06/28/08 16 little fry! I have 5 more guppies all due to spawn in about a week. I have 4 half black blue females so hopefully I will get some pretty blue ones! I'm pretty sure most of them are pre-hit, so who knows.
Just sharing the joy!
CONGRATULATIONS :D good luck with them :D
Trade for 1/2 black reds?
If you get any trios of 1/2 black blues, I'd be interested in trading for trios of 1/2 black reds. Mine dropped about 3 weeks ago, so in another 2 months, mine should be ready to pair up.
Congratulations! Two of my female guppies just spawned a few days ago, one on July 1 and the other yesterday, so I'm really excited as well!
Let's hope that both of our batches of fry will grow up to be healthy, beautiful guppies!
I am really interested to know what you do with all of the babies. I am taking my brothers neglected guppy tank (out of sympathy for the guppies) and don't like the idea of the little fry being eaten. Just seems too heartless to let happen to me. The tank is only 10 gallons though, and will soon be overrun if the fry are put in there. What do you do? Thanks.
PS: I do have a spare 5.5 gallon (for the fry??)
You could always see if any of your friends are interested in some guppies, put and ad on the internet, or in a paper, try bringing them to your local fish store and see if they want them. You would have to raise them a little for this though. How many fry are we talking here? You could put a few in the 5.5 gallon tank. And get a fry net to hang over the side of your ten gallon until the fry are large enough to sell/give to someone. Guppy fry grow fast too. But in all, the best way to deal with the fry, is separating your males and females. Or just trying not to notice when one day you wake up and you little guppy isn't looking as plump as she was the night before.
I guess that I could try with my lfs. Nobody that I know has fish (or takes care of them well if they do), so that is out of the question. I wouldn't mind putting some of the females in my 15 gallon, but I know that they can store sperm, and I don't want another tank overrun with guppies. Not that I don't love them, they are so cute, but I don't want more population issues. Hmm...I'll just have to think through this one. Thanks for the advice.
PS: As of know there are only a few adult females in the tank, but more are on the way!
