Ph and alkalinity levels off
im sure this has been asked before but im sicker then an upside down fish right now so dont feel like searching. my ph and alkalinity levels are off. Ive had the tank for about 3 weeks and it also looks cloudy.( i do my very best not to over feed!) i put aquaclear 2 days ago.. no better. its a 90 gal tank. 40% of the water was from that tank when i baught it from a guy. i treated all the new water and everything just like a good boy!! !! just what might cause it, something i may be doing wrong?? some thing the fish are doing? lol any suggestion would be great. o yeah i need to change the filter but i cant even talk or do much so i havnt been just up and ready to change the dang filter. its a rena xp3 thanks for any sugg.
It is rather normal for water to be cloudy at the 3 week mark. We need to know test results for Ammonia, Nitrite, and pH. There is really no other way to determine the cause of your cloudy water.
for the amonia and nitrate show fine on my test stick! its not numbers lol its colors.. the ph was a diff color... didnt tell me what to do if it is off though. BUT im gonna go buy a diff kit. it came with some kit that has like 10 diff bottles in it. i guess im gonna have to read the bible on that one to figure out how to use it. but thats it !!!!
You'll definitely want to switch to using a liquid test kit. It's far more accurate and you need to know exact numbers. Most of the time the colors that are marked "safe" on those charts aren't generally safe. You want zero ammonia and nitrites, so if it's giving you any reading at all, that's a bad thing. However, the test strips are so inaccurate, so don't freak out until you get a new test.
