Looking for 29G/36G/40G aquarium suggestions
Hi, I currently have a 12G Gallon Nano Cube setup, and I'm looking to try something new. I rather like the Nano Cubes, and I'm considering getting another 12G or maybe a 24G later on, but for the moment I'm looking for something that will fit nicely atop a sturdy dresser I have. The space I have to work with is about 15 1/2" wide x 36" long, and I'm looking for something that will maximize it, so likely a 29G, or maybe a 36G or 40G if they fit. The Seaclear 36G bowfront tanks look like a nice choice but they seem a bit expensive for not including a bulb or filtration.
Any recommendations on either a basic tank or a system that would fit this size? It's going to be a planted tank with mostly gouramis. I'd really like to have a 36 or 40 gallon if possible, but I'm not really sure what the best options for lighting/filtration are at that size. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. :D
Even if the dresser seems sturdy, I would be concerned with the weight of the aquarium. A filled 29g aquarium weighs 330 lbs, more if you've got heavy gravel or extensive rockwork.
I agree. Tank usually go from 10lbs per gallon (if I remember correctly I think it was closer to 8.4lbs) and weigh more when you add substrate, rocks, decorations, etc. So for my one gallon betta aquarium, I'm looking at about 8-10 lbs of water.
Keep that in mind, I'm not sure what kind of weight your dresser can hold.
Most dressers are made of cheap particle board, etc. What is yours made of? Better quality wood can hold more, such as my 55 gallon tank stand, which is made of pure oak.
Assuming you have a solid wood dresser (and it's a fair assumption - I have a this end up bedroom set that has a 50 gallon on one dresser and a 33 on the other...)
46 gallon Bowfront is probably the biggest standard tank that will fit in that footprint. 36x16x20+" tall. Probably look great with some Gouramis in there too.
Looks like most other 36" long tanks are either 12" deep (I have a 33 flatback like that), or 18" (I have a 50 and a 40 like that).
