Quarantine, how long?

Ok, so I won that ebay auction and will be rehoming some cichlids. I don't want to give anybody a sick fish, so I plan to quarantine them. How long is enough? I am thinking at least 14 days, if not 28 days.

Any input?

In a freshwater aquarium, 14 days should be sufficient, with 28 days being almost bullet proof. Great question.

For a marine tank, i always recommend a full month quarantine period.

Any problems I have had with new fish always seemed to show up within 2-3 weeks. So I would probably QT for 3 weeks, with 4 weeks being better as Pasfur said.

Well, we've had one death, and while it was most likely due to my error in not checking Mr. Ebay's packing job, I'm going to err on the side of caution. Quarantine will be 4 weeks. Which is probably for the best. I can't tell what half of these juvies are.

I'll be posting photos soon to see if anyone else can tell.

Cheers,

Ash
