Dragon fish

LFS has what they call a Dragon fish. It has a snake like body with a large mouth. It is about 12 inches long and the expert says it will grow to 20 inches or so. The lfs says it will be fine in a freshwater community tank. Does anyone have any info on this fish? Thank you

Does anyone have a tank big enough to house it? :)

Anyways....they're also known as Violet Gobies. They have really bad vision so you have to target feed them, it's also what keeps them from eating the other fish. Apparently they're pretty peaceful anyways.

That fish sounds suspiciously a Polypterus endlicheri endlicheri or Polypterus endlicheri congicus.

This is about the best website I can find on it: http://whozoo.org/Anlife2001/johangus/jg_dragonfish.htm

Fits the OP's description too.

Its probably a dragon goby (im pretty sure violet and dragon are one in the same) their throats are alot smaller then their mouth and they have a habit of geting gravel stuck in their throat when they eat off of gravel. They need a 55 gallon minimal if i remember corectly and are best on sand though i have never kept one myself.

Is This It?

I've seen "dragon fish" for sale in many LFS in the states and they have always been Gobioides broussonetti (violet goby, dragon goby, etc). While they are extremely non-aggressive, they should be kept in brackish water, which rules them out of most community tanks.

yeppers, i saw the same thing labelled as a "dragon goby" and it said they needed brakish also.
