I recently got a free 10 gallon tank that i want to keep as a quarantine tank in case any of my fish get sick. it came with a junky light and hood that i'm replacing and a really old undergravel filter that i threw out, but the tank is like new. I'm just looking for some tips as to how to set it up, i've heard you're not supposed to use a substrate in quarantine tanks, and recommendations as far as filtration goes, anything really. thanks in advance!
Operation is very simple. I normally just use heater, sponge filter and provide a couple hiding places such as PVC pipes and flowerpots. You need to keep it as simple as possible yet comfortable for the fish so maintenance is much easier.
The sponge-filter is really optional, as you will need to change the water frequently anyway. It would help the fish if you put in some gravel from your main tank into the hospital tank, because your fish will not be in a completely steril environment. Other than that, Lupin pretty much covered it.
