t 8 lighting
Is 2 t8 8000k 34 watt bulbs twice as good as 1, or is it just 2 bulbs that produce the same amount of light
Re: t 8 lighting
So yes, you would have 68 watts of lighting for the basis of calculating light levels.
On a side note, I would get a 6500K bulb and use it in tandem with the 8000K.
I'd do a 6,500-6,700k and a 10,000k one IMHO. But fish_4_all's suggestion is also a good one.
Any variety is a good thing. I think it makes a huge differenc ein plant growth and even with my cheap shop fixture, when I switched to 2 different bulbs covering different spectrums my plants grew so much better and had better color.
Just to add a note. T8 lighting will soon become obsolete. T12 lighting is already becoming so. The future of T5 lighting is the way as is compact Fluorescents. With T5's and CF's you get a much more efficient lighting package.
I must agree with herfishy on that in the end, it might save you some money to upgrade to T5 or compact florescents now instead of later. Besides, CF or T5 will really brighten up any tank and make your plants look 100% better, I can almost guarantee it!
