my oscar has been acting funny he is about a year old now about a month ago he started going nuts in his tank swimming really fast and running into the sides and since then i can not get him to eat i feed him cichlid stcks jumbo as well as shrimp june bugs and lettuce but no matter what i try to get him to eat he will not all water specs are good i am doing 95% water changes 3 times a month now but he will not eat he is alone in the tank and it is a 55 gallon he does not appear to be too big as he has lots of room to get around and play with his cup anyone got any ideas what is wrong

Why are you doing such big water changes? Even for a messy oscar, I would suggest you change the 95% changes three times a month to maybe 25% changes twice a week. Smaller changes more often are much better than bigger changes less often, and unless you have some sort of emergency situation, it usually isn't good to change more than 50% of your water at once.

If you could answer the questions in the first post of this thread, we would be much better able to assess what's going on in your tank and how to help:

I actually think big water changes are fine provided the frequency it is done with is not too far a gap between time intervals. 3 times a month does seem too much and cause tremendous shock for the fish depending on how much the oscar is fed. If 95% must be done, I'd do it every 3-4 days just to minimize the extreme changes the water is undergoing otherwise 25% twice a week is fine although I'd increase it to 30-40% to cope with the bioload. (again depending on the feeding schedule):)

I change 1/3 of the tank water/gravel vac, once a week with two oscars and it keeps the bio-mess in check.

Some dither fish such as silver dollars may help if it is indeed boredom, i find a 25% water change once every two weeks is sufficient even for an oscar, but I do have a very efficient filtration system. The oscar could be affected by vibrations or abnormal lighting, so check for both of those potential causes. Also, if your tapwater isn't treated for chlorine, the oscar will be stressed.
