Firemouth Question
Something of an unrelated firemouth question, or fish question in general. Is it possible for a fish's growth to be stunted by bullying?

My sister's boyfriend keeps a decent-sized Texas cichlid (I'm guessing 6 or 7 inches) in a large tank with a firemouth. He's had these fish for over two years I believe, and the firemouth is no longer than 3 inches. It looks to be in perfect health, and the owner tells me that the Texas cichlid never actually bothers the smaller fish. He says both fish eat like pigs when they're fed. Why is the firemouth so small, then? He spends a lot of time hiding in a rock formation but like I said, it doesn't get picked on by the larger fish and gets plenty to eat. What gives?

By the way, this guy keeps his tank immaculate. He way over-filters the tank (he uses a reverse-flow UGF, HOB's, cannisters, as well as a massive stand-alone HOB biowheel) so I don't think water quality issues are to blame.

how bigs the tank

It's a custom-built tank he used to use for a marine setup, but I'm guessing around 75 gallons.

Some can grow larger than others. My friends was twice as big as mine, and mine was twice as old.
