My red backed(Plethodon Cinereus) viv.

This is my redbacked salamander's vivarium. Have had him almost a year now and he is thriving on grubs, pin head crickets, slugs, and a variety of other small insects.

The last picture is the only one that has him(frederick the great) in it. And here is a video of him moving around some. Enjoy!

Nice pictures and lovely vivarium! I love the music you have playing to accompany your adventuring salamander! That was great. :D

In the video, I was waiting for him to pull out a sword and have an epic battle with legions of newts or something. I guess the music got me a little too pumped. Cool setup!

Blackice 06-05-2008 06:04 PM

Lol, yeah I know sounds pretty epic. My older brother did the music and effects for me.

Your salamander seems very happy in his lush surroundings. I used to love to find these guys under rocks and logs when I was a kid. 8)

I once had a large black salamander with yellow spots. I loved to watch him eat worms. He'd actually stalk them like a cat, swaying his head back and forth in anticipation before he pounced. It was neat!

Sounds like you had a Spotted salamander(Ambystoma Maculatum). They are really neat I hear. My red back doesn't really stalk his prey, he waits till it gets close then he just grabs and swallows it whole.
