red parrot cichlids help
I am looking into red parrot cichlids, my wife really likes them so I am trying to see if I can get a pair to work for us. I am not finding allot of info on them, is there a more common name for them that I can look up them by? I know they get pretty big but I am not sure how big. I am wondering if I can fit a pair of them in a 37 gallon tank, if I remember correctly the dimensions of the tank are 30" wide 24" tall and 12" deep. I think the tank is a little small but if it was just the 2 cichlids and no other fish would that be okay?

hmm thats interesting. I had no idea, I thought they were just another fish. So then the general conscenses is that it would be bad to support the red parrot cichlid trade? Im not entirely convinced after reading just one internet article, but its somthing I would like to know more about before I decide to buy some. I still want more info on them and other opinions. also other options, I just bought the tank so I am just looking for stocking suggestions. I wont be buying any fish for a month or so. I am looking for somthing larger and unique for this 37 gallon tank. my budget for the actual fish is around $80 to start

Parrots are hybrids. I wouldn't walk across the street if they were being given away. They are a marketing ploy and are found only in aquariums and not in the wild. I personally won't give in to the "genetic" market.
