Ready for fish?
Finished setting up my new tank today, 60L. Equipment working. All landscaped and planted up (5 big bushy plants and a moss ball - going to add to it though with some neighbours cuttings in the next few days). Tested chems and all ok. Mature filter media ready to go from the old tank. Fair few decs from old tank been moved across too to help.
Just waiting for my water to clear a bit, still a bit murky from all the disturbance today.
Once the water's clear, are my fish ready to make the move? Hoping they'll love the move from a 24L to a 60L!
I would gradually move them maybe 2-3 at a time and then give a week for system to stabilize, rinse and repeat until all fish are moved. last thing you want is a ammonia spike and for fish to get sick again
Just thought....as I'm closing the old tank down I can just move the filter from my old tank across to my new one with all my fish (only 8), it would have much of the original bio filter for that load in tact (especially with most of my decs being moved across as well.) and it would have double filter power for a few weeks until it gets established. I'm working short hours this week so will have loads of time for numerous chem checks and water changes if need be. :D
if you can commit the time of the constant checks then you should be good to go! might see a small spike in ammonia though don't be alarmed though itll go down on its own. just don't let it get too high
With the old filter, old decorations, and live plants, you should be okay. Just don't add any new fish for at least a week to ensure no Ammonia or Nitrite.
Fast growing plants are best in this regard. Best is floating plants, second best would be stem plants. The moss ball is negligible in this regard as they are so slow growing they don't use many nutrients, but they are still nice to look at :)
Okiedokies...I lose hours with my fish anyway...might as well lose hours constructively! :D
