What type of cichlid did I see?
I saw what I'm pretty certain were cichlids in a LFS the other day. I think they were young, as they were only about and inch and a half long. They were medium to dark brown with black spots. Any idea what these might have been?
really no way to know unless you got pictures!
Wish I HAD gotten pictures. The clerk was busy with someone else, so I couldn't ask, and then forgot when I was leaving. I thought maybe you'd have an idea from their color.
were they jaguar cichlids maybe?
Just looked up Jaguar cichlids, and the coloring is wrong (unless its quite a bit different in young fish). The jaguars look to be a lighter brown with black spots. These fish were a lot darker brown.
These are the only ones I found matching the description you posted

Looks like none of them would go well in a community tank anyway. I just thought they were neat looking, but suspected they'd get much larger. Thanks for going to all the trouble to look them all up, Fishyfish!
wow that's some digging there!
Totally impossible to say without pictures.
