Cichla ocellaris compatibility
First of all sorry if this is in the wrong section, :D
I have 4 young 1inch Cichla ocellaris that are now in isolation in a spare 20G tank, I was wondering if (when they are big enough not to be eaten) I could put them in the 120G tank with a
12" Lepisosteus platyrhincus
4" Hydrocynus vittata
5" Hepsetus odoe
5" Ctenolucius hujeta
Iím pretty sure the answer will be no in the long term, anyway most of the listed fish will eventually grow to big for the 120G themselves and will have to be moved to a bigger enclosure.
For argument sake, if I did put the Cichla ocellaris in the 120G when they are big enough not to be eaten by the other fish, who would be aggressive to who? or could they live harmoniously until the Cichla ocellaris grow too big.
Would not the pike, gar, etc. be growing as well as the one inch cichla? : :?:
Logically they would but the Gar has already tapered off, and from my understanding and observation of the cichla feeding I would presume they would grow at a faster rate than the Pike ? correct me if Iím wrong. .
:( Don't know enough about the gar, pike, etc. assuming they have been given live food to eat , they may view the cichla as food until it is well above six inches. Have caught large gar from missouri river on four to six inch. perch while fishing for flathead catfish.
Peacock cichlids are tank busters!! As are a couple of the other fish mentioned. They are also more vicious, and territorial, than any of the fish you have. Once they achieve the size, I would guess that they will kill, or severely maim the other fish.
Not a fish I would recommend to the average fish keeper, even if they happen to have a 120g tank, which, in the end, will be much too small.
