At first, it was getting along but recently my Gourami (gold) is getting real big and bossy in the tank. It even killed one of the other Blue Gourami which I had in my tank for a few months and bought them together.
So last time, I notice it went on a rampage and killed some other tank mates (I bought some snake fish, now its just the corpse). This is horrible, I dont know what I should do. The size could be an issue as he is the biggest of them all. Any ideas?
55 gallon tank
barbs, tetras, red swordtail, platy, black molly...
I'm not sure...if you think you're fish is being aggressive, I found this site. Maybe it would help; IDK.
Aquarium Fish Aggression
Thanks for the link and the help on ID'ing the Molly. My Gourami is now on its own little jar, I think I will need a filter to keep it alive.
Okay, great! :)
I hope your Gourami does well. Let me know how it goes if you remember.
That gourami will need a bigger tank than a jar. maybe return it to the store if you can't house it properly alone.

Yes, please return it or give it to another aquarist. Fish need a proper home, with space and a natural environment.
As for the initial question, this is common with this species. IF you read our profile [click Blue Gourami, this is the same species as the Gold as it explains therein], it mentions that this fish can be very territorial. Usually it is the males fighting each other, but frequently females get a bit nasty too. You can't do anything about this, it is the inherent nature of the species.
Having said that, it is true that improper environment can create worse aggression, as the linked article mentions.
