Check you heater first if it is functioning properly. What is the brand and how many wattages is it? Most heaters have a warranty.
How many mollies did the lady give you?

What is the usual tank temp without the heater? If it's still above 24, then just place the mollies in the QT until you get a new heater(assuming the old one is too dodgy and may not be used). mollies will often experienced clamped fins if kept in temperature below 24. Just in my experience.:wink2:

havent been given them yet but its my friends teacher and she wants to ge rid of them. i think my temps around 70 but can get cold at night

At this rate, you really need a heater, Joe. What is the wattage and brand of your heater? We need to verify it before you can consider using it. If not, try to buy a new one. Better to do than risking ich to appear. Ich is almost always around and will appear once your mollies begin to succumb to the cold temps. They do not fare well in cold temps unfortunately and will become more prone to diseases.
