MY WATER IS GREEN?!?!
I really dont think this is very normal My water is litterally green we have done a water change about 30% and Its still green. does anyone know why this is? and what can i do to fix it. it just does not seem normal to me...
Green water, aka "pea soup" is a suspended algae bloom.
Can you please list your water params for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, phosphate, and carbonate hardness?
The problems in treating a suspended algae bloom is in identifying whether it's green algae or blue green algae, and the only way to determine this is under a microscope. I can scope it for you if you send me a water sample. I would only need about 1/3 cup of water in double zip lock bags, and could provide an answer within about 5 minutes.
Outside of scoping a water sample, the only other approach is going to be to treat for one, and if that doesn't work, then we know to treat for the other. Personally, sending me a water sample to scope for you would be easier and cheaper.
Can you provide us with specific information about your tank please? We can best help you if we deal with your specific situation, and that starts by identifying the specific cause.
How big is the tank?
How long has the tank been set up?
What fish are in the tank? how many of each?
What kind of filtration are you using?
Are there live plants in the tank?
What kind of substrate is in there?
Water params as asked for above (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, phosphate, carbonate hardness)
What kind of light fixture are you using? What bulbs are in it? How old are the bulbs? How many hours in a day is it on?
What foods are you offering? How much and how often?
How often do you perform water changes? gravel vacs?
How much water is typically changed each time?
The more you can tell us about the tank the better we can help you.
