whats going on with the new fish
i have a female midas she was paired with a male flowerhorn that died two months ago so i went and got a male red devil all he do is fight her all day before he got in the tank she would not let u get near the tank but now all she do is stay in the top corner still she is 6''and he is 7''and there in a 75 gallon tank what am i to do.
The best thing to do is to return that male red devil to the lfs he came from.
Not all of these fish are compatible, and you have chosen one of the most aggressive and territorial of them all with the red devil. Considering they are partially mature and just being introduced into a small tank, you need to expect problems. Your new red devil has claimed the entire tank for his own, which is to be expected. That is what they do.
How much decoration is in the tank?
Your only other option would be to get them into a much bigger tank... 125 gallons or more, and lots of decorations in it, so they can establish territory away from each other safely.
Many of these fish tend to mate for life, so the chances of her pairing up with another "mate" isn't likely. If your idea was to mate her with the red devil, it isn't going to happen, and there isn't anything you can do to change that.
Please remove that red devil before he kills her. If left alone that is going to be your end result... 1 male red devil in a 75 gallon tank by himself.
all I have in there is a piece of pvc that niether one of them fit in and a log I was also told that I need to add two more fish to my tank that is equal to there size I called the pet shop and there is another red devil and a flower horn that is in the size range what do u think
I think you should follow the advice given and get fish that are compatible and that you have the facilities to handle. You will definitely need a hospital tank with those fish. One with an intensive care unit.
Oh, I'd also change lfs's.
That's definitely not the right thing to do. Those fish are too large and territorial. They will fight constantly and inevitably only one will survive. Not to mention they will get large, and produce too much waste for a 75 gallon tank to handle.
You should try adding more decorations so that both fish have a chance to claim territory, and it will break up the line of sight so they can't always see each other. If that doesn't work though, you should really be prepared to rehome one of them.
Sorry if any of this sounds harsh! We're really just trying to help you, and prevent you from spending extra time, stress and money. Most fish stores are very profit oriented, so hearing them recommend more fish is not a shocking thing, however, it's not the correct thing. Also, most fish stores do not require their employees to have any knowledge of fish, or if so, very little, so fish store employees are not a very reliable source of information. Not that all fish store employees are uneducated, I know some very good ones, but their knowledge shouldn't make up for your own research.
What I think is that you have a lfs who doesn't know squat about the fish they're selling you, or don't care that you will simply be flushing your money down the toilet in dead fish.
What I think is that you've been given some good and accurate advice here, and you should heed it. (that means listen to it)
What I think is that to add any other fish to that tank at this point, knowing now what to expect from them, would make someone pretty dumb.
Get the red devil out, even if you have to get it a tank of its own, but seperate those fish before the midas has to die. That is the only right thing to do here.
thanx for all the advice u all been giving me im not going to add any more fish I put a divider n the tank and as soon as my midas seen she couldn't be touched by my red devil she assume normal behavior with n mins im looking for a 125 tank what fish will be better green terror are jack damseys
