sponge filters - question
I got a new 5 gallon Eclipse tank for Marley that had it's own filter, a Bio Wheel system. But it seemed that Marley was having some trouble with the current so I'm going to get a sponge filter.
My question is, with sponge filters do they filter out particulates like dirt and dust, or just provide living space for bacteria who consume the fish's waste products?
If they don't filter out particles, how do I remove them from his tank?
They are driven, or powered, by an air pump.
They do some filtering (biological only of course), just not a whole ton. Every couple weeks you just have to swish them around in some of the old tank water that you're changing out and squeeze them and back in they go. Don't ever rinse in fresh water out of the tap cuz that destroys the good bacteria, but you probably knew that already.
