my daughter's school is locked down, hostage situation
OH MY GOD!!there is someone holding a woman hostage on the street outside of the schools! Emily's school, the highschool, the hospital and nursing home are all on lock down, no one in or out, state SWAT is there. Hubby's friend who is in the Nat Guard called and told us he is at Emily's school and she is safe, but they are not letting the kids out until the situation is resolved. I'm am freaking out here. Please pray for everyone's safety.

The hostage situation in Bunkie has ended in the death of the suspect Charles Keith Clark, Jr.

Police say Clark began his crime spree in the early morning hours when he held his girlfriend hostage in her Melville home.

Melville is in St. Landry parish and the girlfriend is related to the Chief of Police for Melville.

Reports say Clark’s girlfriend called the Chief when Clark fell asleep while holding her at gun point.

When Clark realized police knew he was in her home he fled and took a neighbor hostage, then driving out of Melville.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office was notified of the situation and Bunkie Police were instructed to set up road blocks.

Clark drove through the road blocks and, in some cases, firing at the officers.

Clark eventually exited the vehicle outside of a home on East Commercial Street in Bunkie.

News Channel 5 began getting calls about a hostage situation in Bunkie around noon.

Callers told us there was law enforcement in the area surrounding a suspect on Commercial Street.

We were also told the high school and Bunkie hospital was on lock-down for safety precautions.

The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s office confirmed there was a situation that involved a suspect who was fleeing the scene after a car-jacking.

Authorities also confirmed the Avoyelles Parish and St. Landry Parish SWAT teams as well as the State Police were there.

Clark took his hostage into the home on Commercial Street and also held another person hostage when inside.

A negotiator was called to the scene.

However, the situation came to a close when Clark used the 9 millimeter on himself.

We have a crew on the scene and will bring you updates as they become available.
