Hi, I just bought 3 bright yellow small chiclids which were on sale at petco for less that 3 bux i already have a few mollies and neon tetras & platties in my 35g. Do the cichlids need real high ph? Any common issues or diseases I should be aware of? I'm not using any salt now, but should I?[/b]
Re: new cichlids
Check it out:
normally cichlids and the particular fish you have placed them with don,t get along very well. I would expect to see nipped fins and it is possible that tetras might begin disappearing.
Depending on the specie, that may have been a very bad choice. I agree with the statement above. Only some Cics are somewhat peaceful, but can and will exhibit cichlid behaivor.
Can we have some close-up shots?
Neons are going to end up as cichlids snacks, while the platys and mollies will end up becoming "punching bags" for the cichlids.
Shile it is true African Rift Lake cichlids prefer a hight pH and hard water in the wild, most seen in the lfs's are tank raised and acclimated to rather neutral condidtions.
they look like yellow labs:
realy aggresive fish
good luck, when they get a little bigger they will raise heck in your tank
Yellow labs are not as aggressive as many other Rift Lake species. Most Haplochromines are much more aggressive.
