Platy food

WHat foods should I feed a platy? I was goin to feed them some flakes and a few betta pellets. Would this be ok?

hi
they will eat pretty much anything, the best is a varied diet,
do they live with a betta ?

fish_4_all 04-23-2008 03:23 PM

Variety is the spice of life, and good for your fish. Veggies, fruits, flakes, pellets and live/frozen are all good option with flakes and pellets being the staple and the others fed randomly 2-3 tmes a week.

yeah, they live with a betta.

I went to petsmart and noticed white patches on the red wag tail platys. Is this fungus or bacterial infection? and also, on alot of the assorted platys, I noticed a blaxk spot on their mouths, is this normal?

when you say, varied diet, does that mean alternating between brands of say flake foods?

fish_4_all 04-23-2008 03:54 PM

No need to buy different flake varieties. Just alternate the types of food you give them. Flakes can be given every day but when oyu feed something else, give them less flakes and the same for pellets like shrimp pellets or other specialty foods.

follow what fish_4_all has said,and you'll do great :)
keep to one brand of flakes,as they all pretty much have the same stuff
in them.

yeah, thats what im doin now with my betta. flakes one day then next pellets then flakes then pellets then on saturday its pea day then Sunday is fasting day

another question, could I also ,possiblely, maybe, feed them the baby platys as live prey?

I mean just capture the babys that have deformities, save them in another aquarium and feed them as if normal then when its feeding time just toss em in.

How big are baby platys?

:?: :?: You have babies?

Second, do YOUR platies have the white spots? If so that is ick you can find the info on it in the sticky in this forum.

no, I saw them in pretty much every pet store near me.

Im just sayin, when I get the platys and they reproduce, theres goin to be alot of platys around and to keep the population down, I could feed them to the betta
