Pregnant Platy For Several Months? Help!
Ok, So I went to Petco around Beginning of february and Got a pregnant SunBurst Platy. She has looked pregnant since I got her. She has stayed the same size for quite a while now. When will she have her babies. Anyhelp will be much appreciated
Platys often come with a payload and can have several broods every 4-6 weeks from a single insemination. It sounds like maybe yours was not pregnant as you thought or perhaps she had them and they were consumed. Platys can be very ruthless hunting down and eating their young. You really need a lot of plants, especially floating in order to give the fry a fighting chance. I have also been successful in the past by rescuing the fry into a breeder net and/or transferring them to a safe grow out tank.
I mean, You could see the eyes in her. I'm just confused of why she has stayed in this state, or maybe its almost time for her to have babies?
Platys, mollies and swordtails can hold their fry for up to six months. This is normal behavior. When she's ready you'll know it cause you'll see the babies swimming around. Relax let mom do what she needs to do. She knows what she is doing.
