pygmy cories
I wouldn't think so, but I figure ill ask since ive never owned them... do you guys thing a few pygmy cories would get along ok with a betta in a 5g hex? I see some places say they only get just under an inch, some a little over, but I want to make sure before I do anything silly.

Pygmy corys
They will be fine, as long as you get at least 6 of the little guys. Thats what I have in my community tank with a betta in it.

They are also rather drab, and hold little interest for a betta.

Pygs are a neat species of cories. I don't have any right now, but have in the past. The lfs's choose their more colorful cousins for sale in their shops. They do much better in groups, just like their cousins.

I have a 5 gallon hex also, and I've considered pygmy cories with my female betta. I don't really think it's big enough for a group of pygmys and a betta though... I've decided to try something else with my betta.

yeah thats the only thing im concerned about. If they dont get along I have another 10g that they can be moved around in, but I just wanted to know if the pyg cories would have a hard time or not being in such a small tank.

Id think 6 or 8 of them would do just fine but who knows better than you folks :)

I'm going to suggest that the pygmies would be fine with the betta but a 5 hex has very little swimming room. The cycled 10 for all of them including the betta would probably be a better choice. It would be big enough not to be overstocked and would give the cories a little swimming room. Corydoras are not sedentary fish, they like to get out and move around quite a bit.

If it wasn't a hex I'd say definitely to go for it. What kind of hex is it? Is it a tall or more cube shaped one?

Well,12 1/4 by 15 1/2 is a tad taller than wide, but not too bad(I have this one too). I think you could safely and comfortably house 5 or 6 pygmys and a betta, if you kept on top of at LEAST weekly 50% water changes. Thats not to say others couldnt recommend different choices they like, but what YOU like will work. I say go for it.
