please i.d these red growths on my feather duster
these red growths appeared on the tube of my feather duster about 3 weeks ago, they aren't anywhere else in my tank. Please can some body I.D them.
best guess is some sort of thalloid rhodophyta?
it doesnt look like the usual suspects http://www.xtalworld.com/Aquarium/hitchfaq.htm
thalloid applies to a body of a plant/algae
rhodophyta applies to the division (phylum) that particular algae belongs to.
Put simply, it's a red form of macro algae and it is harmless both to the feather duster and any fish in the tank, and it is not uncommon to find in an aquarium or on tubes of feather dusters.
Here is a good link for accurate information about it....
