Is 200 watt to much for a 29g

Generally you want 5 watts per gallon, so it's a bit over, but if the thermostat is working properly, you should be fine. I've got a 75 watt in one of my 10 gallons with no problem. Just make sure to monitor the water temperature closely at first.

You need to make sure your filter circulates all over your tank, to keep the heat even throughout it. A 200 watt is fine for a 29, but to prevent hot spots, good circulation is important.

i have a 100 watt heater in there now but it is not getting to even 70 so that is why i was going to put the other 100watt heater in there as well is that fine
