So, I'm a dog walker, I see a lot of dogs every day. Each day when I go to pick up one dog, I always see the next door neighbor outside smoking, and we say hi. Today, as usual, I went to pick up the dog, and as I was walking back to my car, I was looking in exactly the right spot as the neighbors dog got hit by a speeding car! I ran down the front steps and realized that the car, once having realized what they hit, was speeding up to try and escape! So I took down his license plate number. The poor dog, and owner! I had to keep working, but I gave him all the info I had taken down, and my cell phone number in case he needed me to talk to the police or anything.
Luckily, the owners called me later to thank me, and to say that their dog had been checked out and would fully recover. The police had also come by to take a report! I really hope that driver doesn't get away with what they did! Obviously the dog shouldn't have been in the road, but speeding off is the worst possible thing to do, and I couldn't sleep at night if I did that.
So a few lessons learned:
1) please leash your dog when near roads
2) please follow speed limits, it was a 20 MPH residential street, and that could have JUST as easily been a child
3) people are watching! doing evil things will come back to bite you. especially if someone was smart enough to take down you plate number and the police come pay you a visit.
thats awfull- poor dog i hope it doesnt remember much of those tragic 5 seconds it went through. ive seen a cat get hit before- not very pleasent- its eyes popped out of its sockets, and there was a bloody mess, and cat spread all over the road, and... well you get the picture.
i have no patcients for people like those hit and run guys- i want to go finish buisness with them myself- then i remember that im not in a movie and im not hitman. :( :(
what an awful thing to happen. :(
glad you were able to help with taking the plate number,
i hope the dog recovers.
Too bad the dog wasn't bigger to be able to inflict some sheet metal damage of his own. What a payback, eh?
The dog and owner may be wiser next time. The driver.....what goes around comes around. I just hope that they are never an animal owner.
Irony usually ends up being that they usually have 5 chained up at home...
Hopefully everything works out there. I don't know what the laws are like here but the laws regarding vehicle collisions and dogs where I live are pretty bad. If that happened around here the driver could have sued the dog owner for the damages to their car. Pretty ridiculous considering the situation.
Yeah, the police called me for follow up and filed a complaint against the driver (who's claiming she's never been to the town). Dunno if anything is actually gonna happen to her, but at least it's on her record and she knows she didn't just speed off without anyone noticing. I'm sure getting a visit from the police was rather unpleasant :D
Nothing will happen this time there will just be a report filed about this situation.
