Nitrogen Cycle...Been forever
Okay. I started "cycling" my tank now too long ago, about 1 1/2 weeks. I went out and bought 2 danios and started the process, but ive been stuck at about "3.0 mg/l" of ammonia. ( I test with a 5 ml sample ) And im not too sure how to speed up or help this process along. especially since when i test for nitrites i get 0, which i believe is the next step, any help is appreciated.

Do you have a filter/gravel? That is where most of the beneficial bacteria lives, so if you don't have that in already your tank probably won't get past that point. Also, are you using test strips or liquid? Test strips are very inaccurate so you may be getting a falsely high reading.

ah i apologize.

I have gravel and a stingray filter. its a 10 gallon tank.

And im using test droppers or liquids or w/e lol.

Also i have a fake plant thinger and a little house thing if that matters

Hmm, I checked out that filter, and it's only rated for tanks up to 5 gallons, so that may be your issue, there's just not space for enough bacteria to build up in your filter for a 10 gallon tank. Personally, I only use filters rated at least 100 gallons per hour for my 10G tanks (the stingray filters 38 GPH).

ah alright, thats a great idea.

im going to give this "cycle" a few more days then go out and buy a new filter.

thanx !
