Breeding clownfish in captivity is very difficult. Getting them to spawn isn't so hard, but trying to raise the fry is not only expensive but takes a very very long time. Its for this reason that in lfs's, tank raised clownfish are more expensive than those that are wild caught. The fry go through a very long larval stage, which makes it a very long term commitment, a lot of work and attention to detail, and expensive... not to mention, again... difficult. Many people will see eggs in a home aquarium if they have a mated pair and conditions are good for it, but I have never heard of anyone actually getting fry unless they are specifically breeding and prepared for it, and the eggs are removed and hatched seperately. Again, not typical in a home aquarium. |
