Can I put my Aquarium lighting on during the night instead of during the day?
I work long rather long shifts combined with working most days of the week, so I do not, and quite literally -can not- see my Aquarium in all its glory during the day
I have quite recently started to put my Aquarium lights on a switch timer to come on at 18:00 till around midnight (As I get back from work during the later hours of the evening).
The room that my Aquarium is located in has no source of natural lighting other than the window, to which the curtain is always closed, due to personal preference.
Will this distress my fish in any way, shape or form?
- I'm also intending to get my Aquarium fully planted soon. (Not sure if that is worth mentioning)
I know that I only have 6 hours of lighting with said timer, but will be increasing it to 8 hours, once I get my plants - Turning my lights on at 16:00 instead of 18:00.
I've only just started to do this as of the past 3 days.
If the tank is at least 80% dark during the day this would be fine just get your fish use to the change slowly.
Not a problem! As long as you are providing the fish a circadian rhythm it can suit your schedule so you can enjoy your tank too. Enjoy!!
I don't turn on my lights till about 5-6 PM, and turn them off when I go to bed which is at the earliest 1-2 AM. I, too, prefer to enjoy my aquariums with the lights on.
I cocur with others. The essential thing is to have a period of total darkness within each 24-hour period, and to keep the daylight/darkness fairly regular. You might find more info here:
