Question about blood parrot
Hi I have a blood Parrot there is only one in my tank and it laid eggs.
I was wondering if they would be fertile? or does there need to be a male I am not really sure what to do. I was told where they are hybrids they should not lay eggs, I am just trying to get more information on this.

They are hybrids, a Red Devil / Gold Severum cross. They may lay eggs, but the eggs are not fertile.

I hope you enjoy your Blood Parrot. I had my Blood Parrot for 9 years before it passed. Great fish.

Well, that sort of depends on what else you have in your tank. BP's are hybrids themselves, and will breed with similar species, so it's possible you have a different kind of fish in your tank that will breed with it...which I really don't recommend allowing to happen.

"Although Parrots have been known to mate and even lay eggs, generally they are infertile. There have been sporatic cases of successful spawnings, generally when they have been crossed with a non-hybrid fish. Like other cichlids, Blood Parrots will tend the eggs and resulting fry fastidiously. As with any eggs, those that are infertile will turn white and rapidly fungus. The parents will eat infertile eggs to prevent them from spreading fungus to the fertile eggs." Quote taken from an article written by Shirlie Sharpe, Minnesota Aquarium. Here is the link:

Bottom line, the eggs are HIGHLY likely to be unfertile. Regardless of what you have in the tank, it is unlikely you will have baby blood parrots.

Cool, I really don't know about BP's, just that all of those type cichlids tend to interbreed if given the chance. Nice to know the facts!
