Cycling- what should I do now?
 

Hi guys.

I've been cycling my 20G long tank using the fish food method. I do not have a test kit yet (will be getting it ASAP). I am wondering if I should switch to the ammonia method, and if I can just start adding ammonia?

Basically I want to know- should I wait until I can test the water before I do anything different?

I wouldn't change methods. If you have been adding small amounts of food every day then you have a good amount of ammonia building and your cycle is could be well on it's way. I would get the test kit though, as soon as possible. Test your water and let us know where things stand. Then we can help decide if there is a reason to change methods or stay with it.

Okay, sounds good. I've been adding a couple pinches of flakes every day.... It's been going for around a week with the food. I defo need the test kit. This is what sucks about living in the boondocks!!!

A couple pinches? Wow, that's kind of a lot, isn't it?

Not really... I'm not taking cupfuls or anything! The pinches are quite small indeed...
