new filter

i finally got my new rena filstar xp2! i'm so excited ..my tank is coming together more and more...i was just wondering if anyone else that has this filter and uses the spray bar, if just water comes out of the spray bar, or do you get very fine bubbles sometimes too? i'm pretty sure i did everything right as far as priming and setting up, and i left it unplugged to prime itself twice, so i just wanted to know what everyone's filter were doing. i've never had a canister so i dont know how it's supposed to act...

it is very quiet though, compared to a HOB...which is nice cuz my tank is in my LR...anyways...thanks! i will try to post some pics soon.

Low maintance and easier water changes. Spray bars are generally optional. If you don't have the facility to use airstones as do as the fish constantly toss them about it can help improve surface/gas distribution. Also spray bars benefit breeds with don't appreciate strong currents.

what about the fine bubbles coming out of the spray bar? is this typically normal? cuz i thought that any air coming out meant that there was air in the filter and that's not good, right? but i checked everything twice, and primed twice and it seems to be working great...just these fine bubbles...thanks

How close to the surface is it?

girlofgod 11-15-2006 03:24 PM

it WAS pretty close...just under the water about an inch..now it's way under the water, cuz my tank wasnt all the way full...but i finished filling itup today...

And the bubbles???

I don't have any experience with them but it sounds like you have the normal air trapped in the media in the canister and it is slowly escaping. This should only go on for a max of a couple hours. If it happens much longer than that I would suspect a possible leak in one of the tubes or possibly an airhose that is drawing in air.

I have an XP2, and I did have some fine air bubbles come out at first. It is normal to get the bubbles right after you set it up. They shouldn't last long though, Filstars are known for not having trapped air within the filter. Mine disappeared within an hour or so. Did you add any additional media to it?

Make sure everything is connected properly and tight, if the bubbles continue, sounds like you may have a leak or something isn't connected correctly.
