bottome dwelling Betta?
I've had Fishie 3 weeks now with regular water changes. He eats like a pig to the point that I have had to cut down his food because his belly got to big. I don't know much about Betta's but have been reading, and I saw a picture of a "too fat" Betta and recognized mine. He seems to be back to a good size now. Recently he seems to be resting at the bottom a lot. If I say hi to him, and give him finger kisses through the glass he starts swimming all around his tank. Do Betta's enjoy laying at the bottom? To me fish that lay at the bottom are on their way out except that mine has been like this for about a week now and he looks healthy and eats well. Also, how many pellets should he get? I've heard that I should give him all that he'll eat for 2 minutes or 5 minutes or just give him 3 pellets per meal. Please tell me what is correct. Also, sometimes he looks like a gorgeous midnight blue and at other times I feel as though his color has lessened in intensity. NOt sure what that's about.
Re: bottome dwelling Betta?
You mention doing regular water changes... how regular? How often and how much is important information we need to know.
The color changes and lack of activity tells me something is stressing him. It could be a number of things. The more you can tell us about his tank situation, and water params for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH would help a lot.
As for feeding, most bettas will eat 5 - 7 pellets/day. I usually suggest letting a betta decide how much he'll eat within the first 2 minutes, but there are exceptions to the rule. Also, betta pellets swell once they are water logged. It would be a good idea to offer him a variety of foods. Brine shrimp, either frozen or live is a good addition to his diet, also live black worms if you can find a good source for them.
Can you post a picture? Sometimes things are more obvious in a photo to someone who's been doing this for many yrs. If you can include a pic of the entire bowl/tank, that also would help a lot.
