I'm starting over again with my old equipment. My last attempt at fish keeping was pretty much a failure. (Mostly because my brother kept bringing home diseased Wal-mart fish.) So now I want a nice community tank and was wondering what kind of fish I should have. I have a 55 gallon and want fish that are nice to look at, not too delicate and not too small (I have a fear that they will get sucked up in to the filter.) So, just give me some structure to start off with because I'm not all that sure what I'm doing. Any other general advice would be much appreciated. :)
If i re did my tank id do :
6 Giant Danios
2 Pictis Catfish
2 Glass Knife Fish (or a Senegal Bichir)
1 Farlowella Catfish
and maybe 1 or 2 more peace full fish that were large enough not to be food for the predetory fish.
(yes my tank is over stocked IF they were full grown all are small and i over filter)
I would suggest that you shop for some fish. Find out what you like and set the tank up accordingly. But, first, you need to decide what you like. You should also look at our members' pics to see what you may want your tank to look like. Then, select your fish.
You will just need to settle on what YOU want for your tank and fill it with fish that are compatible with those ideas.
For now, you get started cycling your tank. Get it set up with filtration, gravel and such, and add the water. If you are wanting a planted tank you may want to use a substrate that is made for planted tanks, if your other set up did not have that accommodation.
