Suggestions?

I know it's not very big, but when I got home today my dad had a new tank for me. It came with all the works for $25. He's enabling my More Tank Syndrome. It's a 20 gallon, 30x10x16. It looks a lot bigger than it is, but 20 gallon is still a good size. I want to do something different, so I wanted to ask what species should I build the tank around? I've always wanted a bichir, but I know the tank is way to small for one.

I want something oddball, but something that is relatively active. Cause I barely see hide nor hair of my syno, and that's a bummer.

Would the tank be big enough for an african butterfly fish? If so, what kind of tank mates could I put in there?

I'm open to all suggestions, thanks!

Zule, ol' buddy, I'd give up. The place is surrounded. They have this pretty white jacket with your name embroidered above the left pocket......... The arms tie in the back.....???? What kind of jacket would that be?.... A STRAIGHT JACKET!!!!! Run, Zule run!!! They've found out you suffer from MTS and sent the funny farm guys out to get you!!!!! Run, Zule, run!!!!

Why not set up a tank of endlers or least killifish? Not everyone has those. If you need some, you probably won't find them at your lfs, let me know. I can put in contact with some people. Not real expensive to buy either.

No white jacket, NO!!

I've actually been interested in killifish for a long time, but I think I read somewhere that they get aggressive as adults? So I didn't get any for my 55 gallon. I've seen something at my lfs labeled "golden wonder killifish," but I can't seem to find anything about them online. Do you happen to know how I would find better info on these? I'm assuming this is another of the many odd names floating around the fish world.

Do you get any of the Aquarium magazines? In there back there's a web site for the American Killifish Association (I think it's Association). I haven't gone to the web site but I was also thinking about doing a 20g in my bedroom with killifish but haven't gotten much more info on them.

Papa Smurf (LOL)....will you share your knowledge with us?

The Golden Wonder is one of the kinder killies. Usually they are only aggressive toward their own kind or ones of similar color. Beware, however, as there are some that are annuals. These are Africans that live and spawn during the rainy seasons of that country. They die as the water pools dry up and leave their eggs in the dried mud until the next rainy season.

AKA (American Killifish Association) may be a good place to start looking. killies.com would be another. TFH has a few books dedicated to these fish also.

"Papa Smurf" indeed. lol GOF would be a better term. Pm me for details on that one.

You can order some very cool killi eggs on aquabid. I've been pondering killies, and I think that's the way I would go. That way I'd get to raise them, pick and keep my favorite, and sell the rest back to my LFS. I think it'd be really cool.

I'll poke around on aquabid, thanks. There are so many species to wade through, I have to figure out what kind I would want.

And thanks for the golden killie info!
