It's hard to tell from those pics but it's quite possible. My swords had babies every 28 days...almost exactly every 28 days! LOL My frist fish were mollies. I bought 4 and the next morning I had over 100!!!! SURPRISE!!

basically, if you a bought A female livebearer that was in a tank with at leats one male, there is a 99.9% cahnce she is pregnant. Plus you have a male in your tank so there is a rull good chance she is.

I agree especially if she's hiding and not active. That's how I always know I'm going to have more babies. If my female guppies just sit at the surface of the tank and really don't move much for a day I know there's going to be babies in the next day or two.

she has a good chance of being pregnant like the other members have said, it might be a good idea to get one or two more female swordtails if you tank can fit them, as the male will harrass the female and can stress her out. good luck :D

Not sure if your sword is pregnant but as southafrica said it would be good to get a couple more females if the tank isn't full yet. The female may be hiding because she needs the rest from the male. I have seen that behavior before. If you have enough fine leaved plants in the tank and she gives birth, a few may survive to let you raise them. That can be a lot of fun to do.

well to update, No babies yet, and she is 100% more active now that she is use to the tank. the Male and female get along great theres no fighting or anything they swim around the tank doing their own thing, unlike the 2 creamsicle mollies i have that barley leave each other side. its been a week and everyone gets a long great. well actually i had to bring the Golden Gourami back because it didn't make it. it died 2 days after i put it in the tank. all of the other fish did great though. must have stressed it out to much. I replaced it with the same and the new one acts just like the opaline .

good luck and its good to hear things are going well. if your female is pregnant she may not give birth for a few weeks or it could be a few days, it depends on how pregnant she is, and how long until she really settles in and feels safe. i would still advise getting another female swordtail, it might seem ok now but give it a few months and more than likely the male will start harassesing her. sorry to hear about your gourami, hopefully this one makes it.

The best way to tell if a swordtail is or isn't is to look closly at the anal area if the area is white and squared off and not rounded then she's with eggs. Then when she shows a sharp squared anal area and anal fins stay str8 she's fixing to drop with in a day. But the squared and white colored anal means she's with eggs and rounded with no white just the body color no eggs. It's that simple. This works for all liveberriers and even on some egg lays. it's really easy on guppies square anal and black bellie eggs and fixing to drop square anal and white bellie eggs and 2 weeks from droping, round anal no eggs.
