Anyone have experience with dwarf water lettuce..
Is it a fast grower? Is it very demanding for certain water or lighting? Is it hard to kill?
Desperately trying to find a floater to work for my 55 gallon which is running one 6500k T8 bulb.
My experience is that the plant does not do well in tanks with lots of water movement.
Is that the main reason it could fail? I have a HOB filter but its baffled and have very very little surface movement . Plus the DWL would be on other side of tank from filter.
That's why it failed for me, I think. If I recall correctly, they don't like gettin their leaves wet.
Mine hated my tank!
Though as jaysee has already mentioned DWL doesn't like movement nor does it like get pushed under water. This is something I didn't realize until after the fact.
As long as you get it and its not getting beat up by the filter/water movement it should be fine. There can be some surface movement just not a lot.
It died in a tank with just an AC filter - minimal surface movement. I'm not a plant guy, but I wonder if raising the light fixture up off the top would have helped. I wonder if they got enough light with the fixture sitting on the glass top.
Is amazon frogbit easier to deal with?
none of these floaters can survive submersed...
except for duckweed that is. lol
Duckweed can't even survive in my tanks :-)
I'm hoping to get some DWL but I tried for frogbit first.... floaters are tough to get around here and frogbit is not allowed to be brought into the area.
Anyway, frogbit would be hardier. I was going to say duckweed is impossible to kill.... but I would stand corrected.
