tips for kribensis breeding
i finally got a male and female krib into a 20 gallon with a coconut cave and some live plants (anarchis and cabomba) . there definatly a pair because when they were in the 55 temporarily they always stayed with each other, now that there alone is there anything i could do to trigger spawning or will it happen naturally?? also is it normal for them to eat on some of my cabomba?
Kribensis, like so many cichlids, is omniverous. You may want to start feeding spirulina flakes as well as your staple.
ok whats spirulina flakes?
Spirulina is an algae. It's a green flake food. Tetra makes them as well as other food manufacturers. I usually buy mine in bulk by the pound, along with my other foods, staple flakes, shrimp flakes, freeze dried foods, ect. You can find these on petsolutions.com and other sites as well. Sometimes you can find good deals on ebay, too.
alright thanks, also what is conditioning? and how should i go about that for kribs?
I feed live foods, brine shrimp, blackworms, freeze dried, re-hydrated mysis shrimp, frozen blood worms, brine shrimp and daphnia(thawed, of course), freeze dried tubifex worms, along with their regular feedings of staple foods. I usually feed one or the other items mentioned about 4x a week. I mix it up to keep them from getting too used to one specific food.
alright i dont think i can get a culture, but ive heard its pretty cheap to buy them from a local fish store. also i have LIVE daphnia in my 10g snail tank, i was wondering if there was any way i could maybe get some and put them in the krib breeding tank? or would this be not a good idea?
