"Areo Garden" hyroponics garden - good bacteria so
 

I have this hydroponics garden called an "Areo Garden" I've had setup for months... I'm thinking that there must be similar bacteria in its tank that would be of good use in my filter to help with the 'cycling' of my new fish tank.
There's no animals but with all the roots in there and plant material there must be some of the good stuff... Thoughts?

IMO I would try it.
Then again maybe it's different bacteria that will cause chaos?
Life is about taking chances.

But it's an interesting little expiriment.

The big thing to me is, there is no strong odor- foul or otherwise- coming from the water in hydroponics garden, so from my 'nose test' I'm thinking there really aren't any 'bad' bacteria...

My main concern are some of the nutrients I had to add to the plants along the way... I wish I knew what were in them, my guess is they were similar to 'miracle grow'

I have to think about it.

I wouldn't try except maybe on a goldfish tank first, then move up. All those nutrient tabs you put in may cause an algae outbreak, etc.

On another note, do you like that garden? I gave my wife a gift card to buy one because she liked the look of it....but we don't know if it is actually worth it...may use the card to get something else we need.[/u]

I do love the garden, this is one I started in mid-December, still growing strong... Follow the directions and there will be months and months of harvesting from it... The estimate is another 1 to 2 months of good growth out of this one, after that I'm going to go with the "Salad Greens" option...

They have like 5 new models now, a few smaller, a couple even bigger then the 'classic' which is what they call the original... It wouldn't hurt to start with the smaller one if space is at a premium.
