i have a tank with a male convict and last week got a female for him, but it seems he hates her. she hides in the corner from him and when he sees her he attacks her.. i thought they were great breeders, is it just his personality or what ??
They are one of the most aggressive cichlids you can get. I actually have two mating pair in the same tank and it's a hassle to deal with sometimes. You'll see them take turns owning 3/4 of the entire tank when their fry hatch.
will they ever get along and breed ?
Try rearranging EVERY SINGLE decoration in the tank. This means that no one has territories already claimed, so the new addition will be on even footing. Also, are you sure the new one isn't a male? Just a good thing to double check...
ok thanks. today i will rearrange theyre tank and see if that helps. and i am sure its male and female as one has orange on its belly
Yeah, the orange spotted one is female. When I had to move my tanks, they didn't breed for a while, but kept the same mates through out the 3 moves I've done.
