new aggression in my angels
i just noticed that my angelfish have been really aggressive lately. one is always chasing the other and kinda flicks its head around then trys toi nip the other and then the chase is on. ive had them for close to a yr. like 9 months. they were tiny lil babies when i got them. never seen them do this before they always were close buddies. i dont think its matting behavior i could be wrong tho. its my gold one thats doing the attacking. the one on the bottom. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ps49c7524e.jpghttp://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ps49c7524e.jpg
Is this way for many cichlid's that get along when small, but as they become sexually mature, or approaching adult size, they then can become more assertive/aggressive.
Is particularly common when one fish is interested in mating but the other may be too young, or not interested.
Raised a young group of Discus that most consider a rather peaceful cichlid, but as they approached adult size,, I was taken back by their territorial disputes, and aggressive behaivor at feeding time.
Lowering temp can sometimes work by slowing down metabolisim's , but in some cases,, the fish may need to be moved to other tank's for their own welfare.
awesome thank you for your help. i better get crackin on my new 55 gallon then. i do enjoy my lil buddies.
i did turn the heat down today and this morning when i woke up they seemed to be good friends again lol
