How can i get my fire shrimp to come out of its hiding?
He only comes out when there is food, but grabs the food and goes back where he came from.
He just keeps on sitting underneath my rocks, it has been a week so far, I also added a cleaner shrimp and he sits out in the open from day one,
Fire shrimp are generally quite reclusive. They prefer to find themselves a nice cave in a dimly lit area of the rockwork. It is common for them to remain mostly hidden, except when feeding. While they are generally peaceful towards other inhabitants, they are also quite territorial of their caves, and will defend their territory if necessary. Your Fire shrimp is exibiting natural behaviors. Just enjoy the times you do get to see him. perhaps as things settle down a bit, he'll become more comfortable and venture out a bit more freely.
Just as a little insight on his position. Imagine being thrown into a hut in an african jungle. How far from that hut would you venture after only a week? My guess is, only as far as you had to. While his memory capacity, intelligence, and emotional capabilities are far inferior to you and I, I'm sure he still has enough to know when he is not "at home" in someplace.
Chances are, the fire shrimp now residing in your tank has seen little else but his own kind in an empty breeding/grow-out tank. Except maybe a few of the other creatures kept with it on display for sale at the LFS. Nonetheless, your tank is still a very foreign environment to him.
thanks for the reply
