Compatible with ciclids
 

What type of fish are compatible with convicts?
I want a second type of fish in the tank but i don't want them to get hurt during mating season.

unfortunately i had to settle for a 20 gallon long tank, so i was thinking nothing else would be "safe" during mating season, but i was hoping i was wrong.

I wouldn't put anything else in there because if you have a pair you will soon be overloaded with fry. lol

haha yeah thats what i thought, but then i thought, what am i going to do with the fry... None of my lfs take convicts. and if they do, its for 13 cents. i think ill just use them as live feed? is that possible?

You won't have any trouble getting rid of them on craigslist. I see them all the time in the pets section.

If you have another tank with a fish eater they make great feeders. I did that for some time, also you can remove the fry right after they hatch and feed them to small peaceful fish.

Convicts can be quite aggressive, so you should have a similiar sized fish with similiar aggression as the convict. But being its a 20g tank, there isn't much you can put in, because Convicts can get 5-7". Maybe 2 convicts in the 20g, but eventually you'd want to get a 30g+ tank.

yeah the idea was to upgrade when i had more money, but that won't be for a while.

In that case keep what you have until you have the new tank. Buying with hopes to upgrade later is a bad idea.
