Last night my mottled sleeper goby, Dormitator maculatus, went to the big aquarium in the sky. No disease or illness took him, just his own mealtime rowdiness. He broke the heater in his tank and got "cooked". This happened in a period of about 8 hours. He evidently cracked the glass on his heater that caused a short and the heater stayed on. The heater was supposed to be one of those unbreakable ones. His custom 33 gallon tank is empty now.
He was over 12" long, big even for his species. He had been fed some ghost shrimp, feeder prawn, and a dozen feeders earlier in the evening and was his usual gluttonous self. As ugly as he was, he was a very unique individual. Not flashy, lazy really, until it came to feeding time.
I really didn't know how much we enjoyed him until I had to pull him from his tank and place him in a plastic bag for disposal. I won't have to go to the lfs for the live food for him now. Still have the wolf fish, but it isn't the same. As "Grump" had been with us for over 2 years now. Will definitely have to get another, ugly has just become chique.
No condolances are needed, or wanted. Just a celebration of the unappreciated joy that this ugly critter brought to us.
See ya Grump. I hope that you find a huge supply of shrimp, prawn and feeders where ever it is that fish go.
Im sorry, but seeing that your banned you wont read this.
