I would definately do shrimp since it's a small tank. I have Red and yellow cherries in my two small tanks and I love watching them swim around and stuff.

Wait you said unfiltered? Are you going to put a filter in that tank eventually?

More plants, something that floats, frogbit ,water lettuce. With no lid you could put in a water hyacinth .

Definitely the shrimp.

I don't know much about Bamboo Shrimp but reading the profile it sounds like they may get to big for a 2.5 gal. It says min is 10 Gal...

3-5 inches, yup too big. Cherry shrimp get around 1" and are colourful... actually most shrimp are around that size as they are all a dwarf shrimp. Cherries are just one of the easiest to get which also makes them a good low budget shrimp.

arent bamboo shrimp filter feeders and need to have a good current to thrive ? cherry shrimp +1!
