Silver Dollars "Boyancy" Issues
i have 10 baby silver dollars, about 1 1/2 inch diameters
after they eat a few of them seem to have a "boyancy" issue
they will kind of stay mid tank level with their nose pointed down at a 45 degree angle, then they will gradually float up to the top of the tank.....as they float up they kind of fall over on their side, at the top of the tank they are completely on their side.....then after a second or two they recover and swim back down....this cycle repeats itself for about 5 mins....
after 5 mins the fish are completely fine....this only happens after they are fed and have eaten.....they are extremely healthy, very active, and feed aggressively...no other issues at all....they are not being over fed, all food is gone within a minute....just flakes,
im sure they will be okay, they are growing like weeds, not really asking for a solution, just wondering if anybody has heard of this or experienced it before....
I have heard that fancy goldfish should be feed sinking pellets because they can take in air which can cause a buoyancy problem. I have not heard about this in silver dollars so I am not sure it is the same issue.
However dollars are primarily grazers and mid level fish. Maybe offering them cucumber, lettuce, spinach, etc on a lettuce clip will prevent them from possibly taking in air. You can also get tetras foods which slowly sink so they can eat at mid level in the water.
I hope this helps!
