Breeding Pair of GBRs in a 29g
Im wondering if i could get a pair of GBRs in my 29g? If I can would I have to move them to a breeding tank? I really do not want to do that. Already have four tanks. A 29g freshwater community, 10g Kribensis breeding tank, 2.5g platy and cory cat fry grow up tank, and a 5g nano salt.
What sort of fry survival rate are you aiming for and what other fish are in the "community"?
For a survival rate, well as much as possible. There are 7 rummynose tertas, 5 peppered cory cats, 2 angelfish, 1 pearl gourami, 1 banjo cat, 6 platies, 1 bushynose pleco, 1 stiphodon goby, 3 Kuhli loaches.
The tank is densly plated with sand, rive & slate rocks, and 2 pieces of driftwood.
If water is soft, acidic, temp's 82 to 84 degrees F ,the German blue ram's may thrive depending on stock aquired.
Many of these fishes that are imported, are reportedly kept in water's loaded with antibiotic's and other chemical's,hormones, to induce nice color's,ward of bacterial pathogen's.
Once fish are removed from these water's and then shipped to store's from possibly thousand's of miles away,,acclimated to store tank's,your tank,my tank, more than a few succumb in a matter of a few week's.
Might try and find breeder that can verify the fish are being raised in close to same water as you have.
You mention a pair.if breeding is the aim,,I would submit that the Goby,Angelfish, platy's,(platy's need hard alkaline water,)would happily eat any fry should the ram's produce successful spawn.
So Im not going to get them. What if the angelfish breed? I know that they get pretty aggresive when breeding. But since there is only the rummynoses, pearl gourami, and the platies swim around. Would it be bad to have them breeding in a community?
Never mind Im going to get rid of the angels and get the rams and 3 more rummynoses.
